Repairing Carpet After Renovations or Faulty Installs

Oftentimes when renovations are done on your home your carpet gets left out of the process, leaving you with missing carpet, underlay and smooth-edge. With everything sitting in unusual positions due to the previous layout of the area. Alternatively, you’ve had the wrong installer, and things weren’t installed correctly from the start. So what do you do?

Carpet After Renovations

When a wall has been removed, a doorway has been moved to a different position, or walk in robes have been rearranged. The carpet will often have a missing piece. This requires patching the carpet, fitting and removing edging to match the new space, and removing underlay from the previous area, because it’s now sitting in unusual positions. Sometimes it’s the other way around and there’s excess carpet in places, needing to be cut back to fit the room.

Faulty Installation Problems

Faulty installations can have similar results. Common problems include underlay that hasn’t been glued, taped or stapled down correctly, causing it to bunch up or create gaps to the subfloor. Carpet joins can lift due to lack of seam sealing or not heating the tape enough. Edging coming loose because it wasn’t installed properly. When this happens, it’s quite often the nails used to install the smooth edge are the wrong type. If concrete nails are used on a wooden floor, they’ll lift. And when the smooth edge lifts, this will either cause your carpet to bubble up throughout the room or be a sore sight for the overall look of a space.

How We Fix These Areas

A lot of the work comes down to patching. Filling in the missing section with carpet while making sure the pattern runs the correct direction, it’s cut to size, seams are tight with no gaps, and glue is applied properly. We’ll source carpet from a wardrobe or any spare carpet that’s available and use that for the patching. We do everything we can to bring the carpet back to it’s original condition where it functions properly, re-securing and filling in underlay, replacing smooth-edge, re-finishing edges, whatever is needed to make it right.

Whether your carpet was damaged during renovations, installed poorly from the start, or just has issues that have developed over time, these problems are fixable.
